Aguilera: Sept. 27-Oct. 1
It's been awhile since I've done a blog, unusually long time really. The theory that I chose what mythological theory because of the religion that I've grown up with all my life I really think i can relate to literature through that. Being able to interpret meaning, just like I do the Bible, are very important things and seeing that interpreting whether it be colors, numbers, or even images that help understand Hamlet then that is why I chose this theory. In the second act Hamlet is already related by weather from the King which could resemble many things. Info such as that is needed and will be researched throughout the play which will help as well.

Aguilera: September 7-10
This week was pretty intense, considering I'm in leadership. We had the rally this Friday which actually went pretty well which was a relief off of all the chaos coming up. Things tend to be relaxing this time of year..not! The San Bruno fire was anything but relaxing, seeing that I live a couple steps away from San Bruno I saw all the smoke and devastation. All the bay area tries to come together now and help out all the families. I have to pass through San Bruno park to get to my house sometimes and going through there now I see so many families and it should just go to show that materials are only available for so long and that one second could change ones world around. Just like 9/11 we'll remember this day for a long time trying to rebuild and recover the damage that's been done. Hopefully all our hearts go out to San Bruno. Also why does it seem that even though this blog looks huge, it really isn't.

Aguilera: Aug/Sept 30-3
This week just went zooming by, just like they all said. Its already September 6th..this is ridiculous, school started 3 weeks ago and its September. Everyone always says senior flys and even though I know that I cant believe its happening faster than it sounds! I remember listening to ms. wood one time..of the many times she got off topic..said that remember the month because as soon as we know it, its going to be may. Saying it again for one more high school time knowing it will happen. 24 more days is the count down til big life changing/decisions are made. I'm pretty excited to start college applications as any other senior would be but still narrowing my choices down seems to be really hard as its coming up. I was talking to Lauren Parker this week in leadership as we discussed plans for next year and the whole application process and she said one thing that really made sense, it was "don't worry, there's honestly nothing you can do so don't stress." easier said than done, right? No wonder she's the president-elect but yeah that is a good statement that I should hope for but let's see what happens and where fate takes me. The good ol' saying "Whatever happens..happens."
Aguilera: Lot's Wife
This critical response for Lot's wife is very..whats the perfect word..inspiring? Already knowing this story of Lot's wife from the Bible, it seemed like this poem took a different turn and perspective of things. Reading in details the tragedy of Lot's wife could be clearly understood as a lesson. The lesson of this would be to listen and obviously not look back on bad situations that could, possibly stop you in your tracks to where you're going. Even though it was for the better of Lot's wife she couldn't bare the memories that had been in the city she grew up which is perfectly understandable but when trying to better a family she couldnt do it. There are situations like this still happening today with teens, adults, and everyone choosing the "wrong" crowd and end up hurt maybe loosing a life possibly. This poem was a good one to learn from that we should all look back and just read over from time to time just to see the direction we are heading in life.

Aguilera: August 23-27
This week in AP Lit the main question was "what IS Literature." A small comic stood out from all of what we read this week, The Hapless Child. I read Life in Hell but the comic did not seem very Literature like, but after reading H.C I realized that comics actually do tell a deeper story than seen and also that in situations like this, little is more. Not much was said in H.C but yet you could just dell the emotion from the few words said in each picture seen. Every picture contained just one sentence which amazed me seeing that even 10 sentences could create a bigger story than a huge paragraphed story with no meaning behind the words.
I believe that I got a better understanding of what Literature really IS after reading and comparing the two comics(pg 633-637). Even though we may feel to get the complete idea of Literature we need to, (quoting Mr. Burke) "be a generative thinker through all aspects" which is true because if we are not then we would not be able to think what Literature IS and what Literature IS NOT.

Aguilera: August 16-20
This first week as a senior was just a shock, amazingly I got through it. People ususally say that senior year flys by and I'm really hoping I could get the most out of all of it. What really got me thinking this first week were those letters from previous seniors. They had me thinking that they felt just like I did the first couple days...scared. Everyday I would be terrified to come to this class and I've never felt this way towards a class so it was weird, but, seeing what the seniors had to say really had me relieved. I now know that I'm capable of doing well in this class and knowing that Mr. Burke will try his best to teach all of us in whatever ways it may be.

Academic&Intellectual Profile
1. Sadly the only books that I have read this summer were the following: 1984 by George Orwell, The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, and How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster.
2. Other things I have read: I took a Biology class at College of San Mateo and was required to read a chapter a day. (1-20 chapters), I would have to say that I also read sports articles in magazines, on the internet and even in newspapers only because I do follow the sports world.
3. I have Yahoo! as my homepage because of the interesting articles they have on their home page so I have definitely read many of those.
4. The way I read: I usually search around looking for pictured I can find just to help me out with clues that I will expect to connect with the thing I'm reading. I then continue to read the first couple paragraphs and if I am deeply interested in what I am reading then I skip to the last couple paragraphs just to see what happens in the end. I read the from top to bottom after that connecting all the clues and evaluate how everything went in what I read.
